Mother and baby may have been inspired by the painting entitled “Madonnina “ or Little Mother. In her article: “The True Story Behind Madonnina, Barbara E. Stevens says Madonnina later became known as “Madonna of the road” when it was introduced to the United States. The original was painted in Italy in the 1890s by Roberto Ferruzzi.Since that time, many reproductions have been made.
White is described as the absence of color. That statement proved true when I photographed this cameo over and over trying to record the details in the faces of the mother and baby.Rather than make you wait until I take another photography class, trust that you will be pleased with the detail of this piece of art.The cameo is wrapped in 14Kt gold filled wire and measures about 2 inches (51mm) long and 1 1/8 inches (25mm) wide.
